English 1 Lesson 35 “Describe Kourdakov’s use of contrasts to strengthen his narrative.”

I think Kourdakov’s contrasts really do strengthen his narrative. The first contrast was when Kourdakov and his men were sent to break up a group of believers going to baptize new coming believers. They were having a picnic that day. The day was beautiful and everything around them was very peaceful. But of course not everything stays perfect, things end at some point. One minute the place was at silent but then the next minute Kourdakov and is men went down to the river to break up the believers baptismal. The believers screamed and the attackers shouted. That was the first contrast in this autobiography.

The second contrast was when Kourdakov gave a speech on the victory of communism and ended with a pledge that his Youth League would do even greater achievements in the following year. Kourdakov was on the communism side. But later at night, he was invited into a private dinner party with the leaders of communism. As he walked in Kourdakov was looking at them all in disgust. All of the leaders were drunk and he couldn’t believe that these men were the ones running communism. Orlov, the man who could talk, was also a communist leader, but he just mumbled about how bad communism was stating, “Communism is the worst curse that has ever been Communism is (a description too foul to print).” Kourdakov saw that the leaders of communism didn’t have faith in it themselves. That made him realize that they were all hypocrites including himself. All this effort was to be on top. At a moment kourdakov had faith in communism but later figured out that this was all just a fake act to get to the top. Not only was this a second contrast, but also a big turning point in kourdakov’s life.
Kourdakov’s autobiography was well written and very entertaining to read through. I hope you enjoyed reading through my thoughts on this topic.
