English 2 Lesson 95: Why were the Sadducees and the apostles unable to find a way to reconcile their rival opinions?

While Pharisees and Sadducees had similar way of thinking when it came to Jesus and his teachings. Sadducees were very prideful which brings us to one of the reasons why they weren’t able to reconcile their opinions towards the Apostles. The Apostles, however, were probably pretty humble when accusations came to them. I’m pretty sure that they handled others opinions pretty well. They most likely respected the Sadducees and Pharisees when the situation comes to them. I’m also pretty sure there were heated arguments here and there, but I think the Apostles still did what they could to respect them.

Another reason for the failure to reconcile was that the Sadducees were hypocrites. It’s true when people say, “Actions speak louder than words” they must have liked to hear themselves talk that they didn’t bother living the way they teach. The Apostles show great example of that. They made sure to help others when needed to, gave money to the poor, showed everyone respect, performed miracles, and gave love and care whenever they could. I wonder if the Sadducees ever thought, “Why is everyone coming to these preachers and never listen to us? What is so amazing about them that they are stealing the crowds away from us?”

The answer to that question is pretty simple. The people felt that the Apostles teachings of Jesus and the things he has done for them is worth listening to. They have proved to be listened to just by doing things the Sadducees would not do. The Sadducees never thought about asking these questions, because they were busy being envious of them, cursing them, and planning of ways to get rid of them.

According to the scriptures written by the Apostles, we learn that the Sadducees were actually responsible for Jesus’s death. To which I’m not even surprised about, because we knew that the Sadducees were willing to do anything that stood in their way. The Apostles warned them of repentance or else they should forget about seeking salvation, for kingdom of God isn’t a place for people like them.

In Acts 11 Peter states that he had a dream that God told him that his word is for everyone to enjoy, even the Gentiles who were considered as ‘unclean’. Peter then began to preach to everyone not just the jews. The Sadducees, however, didn’t welcome the Gentiles or any other that were unclean into their religion. Which is how the 2 organizations got separated from each other and weren’t able to reconcile.

The main reason that the Sadducees could never get along with the Apostles was because, they hardcore didn’t believed that Jesus was in fact God himself. Because they couldn’t accept the fact that Jesus was also God, they couldn’t bear to hear Apostles teachings. Not only were they responsible for Jesus’s death, they also gave death sentences to other people going against their teachings such as; Steven, deacon of a church, was made a martyr for standing up firmly to what he believed in. The Sadducees ended up taking Steven to the outskirts behind the city walls and finished him off by stoning him to death. They warned the people that this is what was to happen to them if they went against them and their teachings.
